FROM ASHES TO ART SHOWS (39)

If someone were to ask me for the greatest weight loss program in the 1980s, I’d have told them “Go live in London!” The food was so bland that I just finally gave up. The pounds I lost wasn’t just British currency.

That couldn’t be further from the truth these days. Just perusing the restaurant guides and Instagram reels almost has me forgetting the reason why we’re going to London in the first place!

Sure, there’s Fish n’ Chips and English Breakfasts in our future … and High Tea on a river cruise down the Thames…. but YORKSHIRE BURRITOS?1 Come on!

Camden Market2, where Yorkshire Burrito is located, has vendors from around the world. From Italy to India, from Paris to Pakistan! We could probably eat there every day and not try anything twice.

I almost booked a hotel right inside Camden Market, but they had no cancellation policy, so I moved on. Needless to say, we’ll be spending plenty of pounds… and probably gaining a few… while we’re there.

Another plus about this trip is that I booked apartments through VRBO instead of hotels. Every place has a kitchen, so if we get a late start to the day, or they’re catching up on their game time late into the evening, they won’t be going hungry any time soon.

Food is so much more than just fuel, it’s also an experience. It helps us to explore other cultures while enjoying each other’s company. While there will be plenty of burger and pizzas to fall back on, I’m really hoping to expand the horizons of the Teen and his friend.

I also want to create triggers. You know how a certain smell or song can flood your mind with the memories of a loved one from long ago? I want each food we try to become a lifeline back to this amazing experience. Even thought it’s over two weeks, the time will go by faster than we can hold on.

It’s important that every bite we take fill more than just our bellies. It also fills our minds and our hearts, for many years to come.
